The Blogger platform (also known as Blogspot because of the hosting it is built upon) provides a free service for businesses looking to create a professional-looking site on the Web. It includes a number of built-in tools for completely reworking the look and feel of the site, which can be accomplished without any HTML coding knowledge. Alternatively, if you want to start again from scratch, you can export your existing posts to a new blog.
Switching to a Different Template
Blogger comes with a range of pre-built templates that you can switch between from the Template section of the dashboard. The available themes include a number of Dynamic Views, which can be swapped instantly and provide a more fluid layout for photo-based posts. Each template can be customized to some degree via the "Customize" button under the template thumbnail. Available options cover theme settings such as font colors and styles, and background and header images. Blogger themes are also available from third-party libraries such as Themeforest.
Changing an Existing Blog Layout
If you want to rearrange the positioning of elements on a page, then the Layout tab on the dashboard includes all of the features you'll need. It's possible to change which elements of a post are shown (such as the labels and sharing buttons), move page elements around, and add new widgets to the sidebar such as a tag cloud or an archive list. Advertising can also be embedded to the side of the page or between posts. A blog's layout can be modified as required without affecting the existing content, which will remain in place.
Starting a New Blog
If you wish to start a new blog this can be done from the main Blogger dashboard. Click "My Blogs" and then "New Blog" to set up a new blog associated with your Google Account. You'll be prompted to choose a title, a URL and a template for the blog, though these settings can all be edited later. If you would rather remove some or all of the posts on your existing blog without starting a new one, visit the Posts section from the dashboard, where you can delete existing posts individually or in groups.
Exporting and Importing Posts
If you wish to start a new blog but carry over some of your existing posts, you'll find an export tool in the "Other" section of the Settings page on the dashboard. All of the posts published on your blog are exported, so you may wish to delete some before starting the process. These posts can then be imported into your new blog from the same Settings page. The option to completely delete your existing blog is also available.
